OPENING THIS WEEK | Clint Eastwood stars and is back as director for the fourth time in two years, and critics are pleased. Eastwood's Walt Kowalski is a lonely, bitter old bigot forced into an uneasy cohabitation with his next door neighbors, a family of immigrants. This delicate balance explodes in an unexpected way and Clint shows us some Dirty Harry. | | Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes star in yet another Oscar-baiting, Nazi-focused film about the ambiguities of war. Years after the end of WWII, Fiennes' Michael Berg is forced to choose between aiding or condemning his former lover, Winslet's Hanna Schmitz, who is on trial for horrific war crimes. The film is based on Bernhard Schlink's best-seller. | | And now for something completely different: Big shiny smiles and glowing skin abound in this new matrimomedy. Two friends become rivals after scheduling their weddings on the same day. Unlike most major flicks from the past two weeks, prejudice and violence does not factor in prominently, so this may be worth a shot. | TOP BOX OFFICE | The more things change, the more they stay the same. Owen Wilson and his canine cohort were still on top last week. They clocked $24.3M at the box office, proving yet again that everyone loves a poorly-trained, yellow-haired animal. The dog's cute too. (Boom!) | | The kids are all right, and they're flocking to Bedtime Stories to avoid Owen Wilson's date movie and Brad Pitt's downer. TGIAdam Sandler, who rings in with $20.5M. | | Did you know that Benjamin Button is based on an F. Scott Fitzgerald short story? Ironically, you could easily read aloud the story - and maybe write your own - in the same in the time it takes to watch the movie. But hey, it's quality filmmaking, maintaining the #3 box office spot with $18.7M. | FEATURED PREVIEW Opening 12/5/2008 Directed By Zack Snyder Zach Snyder (300) is back to direct yet another comic adaptation, Watchmen. Based on the series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, this big-budget flick portrays a gang of masked heroes forced into normalcy after their powers are made illegal. Soon after the ban, a mysterious villain begins taking out the former heroes and it's up to the survivors and a strange investigator to solve the mystery. The Watchmen descend on March 6th, 2009.
